Rend Your Hearts and Not Your Garments[a]

12 Yet even now, says the Lord,
    return to me with all your heart,
with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning.
13 Rend your hearts and not your garments,
    and turn back to the Lord, your God.
For he is gracious and merciful,
    slow to anger, rich in kindness,
    and always prepared to relent from punishing.
14 Perhaps he will turn back and relent,
    and leave a blessing behind him,
cereal offerings and libations
    to be presented to the Lord, your God.
